Diggy, Antony meet agitated ministers
Hyderabad: The Congress high command on Monday asked Seemandhra Congress MPs not to disrupt Parliament proceedings opposing the state’s division. A series of meetings were held between Seemandhra MPs and AICC general secretary and state Congress affairs in-charge Digvijay Singh and Union minister A.K. Antony.
AICC president Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel also held separate meetings with the MPs. Antony and Digvijay Singh are part of the committee set up by the Congress high command to address the issues raised by Seemandhra leaders.
The two met Seemandhra ministers D. Purandhareshwary, Killi Kruparani, Panabaka Laxmi, J.D. Seelam, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, K. Chiranjeevi and Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy. The Seemandhra ministers handed over the copy of a resolution which had been unanimously passed by Seemandhra ministers and legislators two days back at Hyderabad. The resolution was also signed by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana.
Before meeting Digvijay Singh, Seemandhra MPs Bapiraju, Lagadapati Raj Gopal, T. Subbi Rami Reddy, K.V.P. Rama Chandra Rao, G. Harsha Kumar, Magunta Srinivas Reddy, Botsa Jhansi and others met Patel who asked them not to disturb Parliament proceedings. The MPs replied that the situation was such that they could not remain silent.
The Seemandhra MPs requested that the state should be kept united barring which Hyderabad should be made a Union Territory. They also said that the high command had taken a hasty decision on the state’s bifurcation.
Speaking to the media earlier at New Delhi, Union Minister J.D. Seelam said that resignations would not solve the problem. If they resign who will work here, he asked. Kurnool district Congress MPs and MLAs led by Union minister Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy will meet Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday and request her to include Kurnool district in Telangana state.
Meanwhile serious arguments took place between Seemandhra and Telangana Congress MPs over Hyderabad. When Seemandhra MPs asked for rights over Hyderabad, Telangana MPs objected and asked if they demanded Tirupati would they agree to that?
TRS men meet Digvijay
The meeting of three TRS leaders with AICC-in-charge, Digvijay Singh, in New Delhi on Monday, created a flutter in political circles, especially the TRS. Rumours flew, about TRS joining the Congress.
However, former minister and TRS politburo member, A. Chandrasekhar, who was one of the three TRS leaders (the others were former minister, Vijayarama Rao and Chandulal) negated this. They met Digvijay Singh in New Delhi and all of them denied joining the Congress. “Why should we individually join the Congress when there is talk of a merger of the party?”
They added, “We are in New Delhi for a personal issue. At the request of Dileep Kumar, we also met Digvijay Singh and thanked him for UPA’s decision to create Telangana,” Chandrasekhar said over the phone.
