Diggy coins ‘Sanghi terrorism’
It is the turn of BJP-ruled states to face AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh’s ire. On Friday, he accused the saffron party-led governments of sheltering people affiliated to the RSS and allegedly involved in bomb blasts. He termed the phenomena “Sanghi terrorism”.
Speaking at a national seminar of civil rights groups here on the plight of Muslim youths “wrongly” arrested in terror cases, Mr Singh said the trend needed to be fought ideologically.
Mr Singh also contended that the sources of funding of the organisations affiliated to the RSS required to be probed. “It is necessary to enquire from where these organisations are getting funds. From where they are getting international funding also needs to be examined,” he said. “All those who are making bombs run away to Gujarat and they get shelter there... Swami Aseemanand settled there. Who did give his organisation the forestland? The governments of BJP give shelter to such elements. There is a need to keep an eye on them,” he said. A known detractor of the BJP and the RSS, Mr Singh referred to a number of terror cases like the Samjhauta Express, Mecca Masjid and Ajmer blasts in which members of some RSS-affiliated organisations were arrested recently.
Asked about the basis of his accusation, Mr Singh said it was his personal view. He said, “Otherwise, why was a police team of Haryana not given any cooperation by the Gujarat police when it went to investigate the Samjhauta blasts there? Why was Aseemamand given shelter?”
Mr Singh, a former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, contended that he was ashamed that his home state has been getting a bad name as this entire group is spread out in the state.
