Diggy given Assam charge
AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh was on Friday given charge of party affairs in Assam in place of Union minister M. Veerappa Moily.
Mr Singh, who also looks after Uttar Pradesh, has been given the additional responsibility of Congress-ruled Assam at a time when the party is preparing for the crucial Assembly elections in five states including Assam in the next year.
The announcement was made by AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi.
But Dr Moily continues to be in-charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh. Party sources said the decision has been taken in view of Dr Moily’s responsibility as law minister.
Mr Singh was also in-charge of Assam during the last Assembly elections.
But Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan seems to continue as the AICC general secretary in charge of the party affairs in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.
This is because the party has not made any announcement about a change in Mr Chavan’s responsibilities even after his becoming the chief minister.

Dec. 3: The exit of Karnataka IT and biotechnology minister Katta Subramanya Naidu posed no threat to the survival of the Yeddyurappa government, making it easier to ensure his exit smoothly, sources explained.
Mr Naidu dismissed the allegations made against him as “baseless” and said he resigned on moral grounds.
Mr Naidu said he did not want to embarrass the government and his party after an FIR was filed against him. “I have done no wrong. I have faith in judiciary. I will get justice,” he told reporters, hours after Mr Yeddyurappa made a brief announcement about his exit and forwarded the resignation letter to the governor.
Mr Naidu, on his way to Vaishnodevi temple in Jammu, said that he would return on Monday and take the legal path.
“I am not hiding anywhere. Nor will I evade the legal process. After taking the darshan of the deity, Vaishnodevi, I will return,” he said.
Though there was speculation about his son Jagadish Katta resigning from the membership of BBMP, BJP sources confirmed he had not resigned.
