Diggy hits out at BJP as Karkare row festers
The controversy over AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh’s revelation that Mumbai ATS chief Hemant Karkare told him hours before the 26/11 terror strike (in which he was killed) that he feared for his safety from Hindu extremists simply refuses to die down. On Sunday, as the Sangh Parivar targeted him after the Congress totally distanced itself from the controversy, Mr Singh hit back at the BJP, asking it some pointed questions.
The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister said: “I want to ask (L.K.) Advaniji and Rajnathji (former BJP chief Rajnath Singh) why they went to meet the PM after Sadhvi Pragya was arrested after the Malegaon blast. Why did Rajnathji go to the jail to meet her? The BJP has to answer these questions before they ask some to my Prime Minister,” Mr Singh said.
Mr Singh claimed Karkare, who he knew personally as the IPS officer hailed from Madhya Pradesh, had talked about a threat to his life from those opposed to his investigation into the Malegaon blast, in which Hindu extremists were accused of involvement. Mr Singh said he had never expressed doubt about the role of Pakistani elements in the 26/11 strikes. “I also never said right-wing activists were behind (them).”
