Diggy justifies latest remark of Karkare
New Delhi, Dec. 28: The AICC general secretary, Mr Digvijay Singh, on Tuesday justified his latest remarks on the slain Mumbai police cop, Hemant Karkare, by claiming that Muslims were blamed for most of the terror incidents in the country before Karkare initiated enquiry into the Malegaon blasts.
Explaining the reasons why he had said that “Karkare is a martyr, he was like a God to Indian Muslims,” Mr Singh asserted: “I meant to say that the police officer was proving to be saviour of Muslims. Before he began investigation into the Malegaon blast, for every terror related incident Muslims used to be blamed.”
While releasing a book 26/11 an RSS conspiracy, in Mumbai on Monday, the AICC general secretary had claimed that Karkare was “like a God” to Indian Muslims.
While clarifying that he had never expressed doubts about Karkare being killed by Pakistani terrorists, the Congress leader reiterated that the police officer was “under immense pressure from the RSS, Shiv Sena and BJP as they questioned his integrity and credibility.”
Meanwhile, reacting to Mr Singh’s assertion, the BJP said that the senior Congress leader’s stand on Hindu terror would “weaken” India’s efforts in the international arena to combat the menace.
