Diggy wants privilege move on Gadkari
AICC general secretary and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh has demanded privilege motion against Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari on his reported statement that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has limited powers in comparison to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).
In a statement here on Friday, Mr Singh has reacted strongly to Mr Gadkari’s interview published in a newspaper, in which he has reportedly said that PM Manmohan Singh is not aware of the parliamentary procedures and the JPC is a wider body with more extensive powers in comparison to PAC. Mr Singh said that the BJP president does not possess better knowledge of parliamentary procedures than Dr Singh or Murli Manohar Joshi.
Describing Dr Singh’s initiative to appear before the PAC on the 2G issue as a historical milestone, the Congress general secretary said no Prime Minister of this country has ever volunteered to appear before the PAC or has ever been asked to. This shows Dr Singh’s highest regard for parliamentary democracy.
