Digvijay’s body taken to Bihar
The body of former Union minister Digvijay Singh, who died two days ago at a hospital in London, was on Saturday taken to his hometown in Bihar for cremation.
Singh, the sitting Lok Sabha member, breathed his last at St Thomas Hospital where he was being treated for heart ailment on June 24. He suffered a brain haemorrhage while in the hospital. The body was taken to Gidhaur on the Poorva Express. The cremation will be held on Monday in Gidhaur.
Singh, 55, an Independent MP from Banka in Bihar, is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Senior leaders L.K. Advani, Rajnath Singh, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Sharad Yadav, Ahmed Patel and Vasundhare Raje, Union ministers Pawan Kumar Bansal, Mukul Wasnik and Srikant Jena and a large number of activists, journalists, government and Parliament officials visited Singh’s Lodhi Estate residence here to pay their respects. BJP MPs Shahnawaz Hussain and Nishikant Dubey accompanied the family members of Singh to his hometown.
“The body will be kept in Jassidih and then in Banka for people to pay their last respects. The cremation will be done in Digvijay Singh’s ancestral village Gidhaur on Monday,” Mr Hussain said.
Railway minister Mamata Bannerjee had arranged for a separate bogey in Poorva Express to take the body of the former Union minister to his hometown.
