Digvijay compromising terror fight, says BJP
The main Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday claimed that senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh is compromising the fight against terror by repeatedly raising question marks about the 26/11 attacks and its ramifications.
The party said by repeatedly raising the issue of calls made to him by slain Mumbai cop Hemant Karkare, hours before he was shot dead by terrorists, the Congress leader is putting a question mark on India’s effort of launching an international campaign against the neighbouring country for not cooperating in the investigations on the Mumbai attack.
The Bharatiya Janata Party sought to know whether Mr Singh’s comments reflected the views of the Congress and the UPA government.
The RSS also described Mr Singh’s remarks as “silly” and accused him of adopting “double standards” when it came to the issue of agencies investigating terror cases in the country.
The Congress leader on Tuesday produced records of the conversation that Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare had with him on 26/11, a few hours before he was killed in the attacks. He had claimed that Karkare was under threat from right-wing groups as he was probing their alleged links in the Malegaon blast case.
BJP chief spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad said Mr Singh’s alibi about his conversation with Karkare has been “clearly denied” by the slain officer’s wife and in the Maharashtra Assembly by home minister R.R. Patil.
“If Digvijay Singh has a problem, he should serve a breach of privilege notice against Patil. But in all this, he is seeking to compromise the fight against terror by repeatedly raising question marks about the 26/11 attacks and its ramifications,” Mr Prasad lamented.
