Digvijay: No tieup with SP

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh on Friday appreciated SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s apology to Muslims for associating with Mr Kalyan Singh, a one-time poster boy of the Sangh Parivar. However, he made it clear that the Congress would not have any alliance with the SP even after the apology and will go alone in the coming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

“Apology is always welcome... It is very good that he has realised ... but is he holding Kalyan Singh responsible for the demolition of Babri Masjid,” Mr Singh asked and said “But there is no question of any alliance in the Assembly elections of UP.”
In Muzaffarnagar, leading Islamic seminary Darul-uloom Deoband termed as a step in the “right direction” the SP chief’s apology. “It is a step in the right direction,” deputy vice-chancellor of the seminary, Maulana Abdul Khalique Madrasi, said.
Another cleric and member of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana Mohammed Islam Kasmi, also welcomed the apology.
