Digvijay Singh replaces Ghulam Nabi Azad in state

Hyderabad: The replacement of Ghulam Nabi Azad with former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh as AP Congress affairs in-charge is not a surprise to many Congressmen in the state. They have been anticipating the development for quite some time.
Singh has worked earlier in the same post, during the YSR regime, and is familiar with AP affairs, but he was reluctant to take up the responsibilities for a second time. AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, however, insisted he was the right man for the job.
Singh has been involved in consultations on Telangana — Core Committee meetings, meetings with state leaders — and, hence, doesn’t need to start the consultation process afresh. He will, of course, need to consult with the Chief Minister and Pradesh Congress Committee chief to get the latest brief. CM N. Kiran Ku-mar Reddy has a good rapport with Singh.
Kavuri is permanent member in CWC
A significant development in the large-scale organisational changes made in the Congress on Sunday was that five-time Lok Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, was inducted into the party’s highest policy-making body, the Congress Working Committee as a permanent member. Before the reshuffle, there was no one from the state in the CWC.
Senior Congress men had also complained of irregularities in firms owned by him, and there was talk of Kavuri switching over to the YSR Congress. INTUC leader and former MP G. Sanjeeva Reddy, has been included in the CWC as Special Invitee.
Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy has lost the AICC secretary’s post in the reshuffle. He has been holding the post for the last six years. Former agriculture minister and former Youth Congress president G. Chinna Reddy has replaced Sudhakar Reddy.
Chinna Reddy is attached to party general secretary Mukul Wasnik who has been put in charge of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Senior Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao has retained his position as AICC secretary, though his new responsibilities have not been mentioned.
Sunday’s announcement of new AICC office-bearers gives the impression that the party’s central leadership has taken steps to enforce the one-man one-post rule scrupulously in tune with the decision taken in the Jaipur Chitan Shivir held in January.
Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy welcomed the appointment of Digvijay Singh as in-charge of party affairs in the state. He said that Singh understands the political situation in AP very well and hoped to get his guidance to strengthen the party and government in the state.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
