Digvijay slams Mayawati over public distribution system
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Saturday alleged that the Mayawati government has failed to ensure that food grains and kerosene meant for distribution among dalits and poor sections of the society reached them.
Addressing a public meeting at Jamaniya, about 25 km from here, Singh said the chief minister who claims she is the daughter of a dalit has failed to ensure that the cheap food grain and kerosene provided by the Centre for dalits and poor sections of society reached them.
The Congress-led Central government provides cheap wheat at2-3 a kg but the state government is unable to ensure its delivery to dalits and poor people, he said, adding that similar is the case with kerosene which is sold in the black market.
The Congress leader exhorted party men to stage dharnas to ensure that these things reached the right beneficiaries besides helping them get ration cards. He also assured that senior leaders would help them in this task.
On the party's mission 2012 in UP, he said it would be achieved only when workers raised issues concerning the poor and deprived sections of the society and fought for it.
The Congress leader said a complete check on all kinds of terrorism would be the right homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
