Dismissal of airhostess quashed
In a historical judgment, a division bench of the Calcutta high court on Friday quashed the dismissal of a 44-year-old air hostess Nipa Dhar by her employer — the Indian Airlines (now Air India) — for being overweight. The division bench comprising of Justice Pratap Kumar Ray and Justice M.K. Sinha directed the airlines to constitute a medical board to check her health condition and give her ground duties accordingly within January, 2011.
The Indian Airlines in 2001 had dismissed Ms Dhar from her job, without referring her for medical treatment or giving her an alternative job like ground duty.
