Dissolution talk to frighten MPs: LK
BJP Parliamentary Party chairman L.K. Advani is of the view that the talk of dissolution of the Lok Sabha was “intended to frighten MPs” as the entire Opposition is determined on a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into scams, including the 2G spectrum allocation, resulting in Parliament logjam. Writing on the issue in his blog, the senior BJP leader said: “No government chooses to go in for an early election unless it is confident of victory. The UPA’s stocks have never before been as low as they are today. The talk of dissolution was intended to frighten MPs. All Opposition MPs, left, right and centre, had become a solid phalanx in support of the demand for a joint parliamentary committee.”
Mr Advani has written that the Vajpayee government recommended dissolution of the 13th Lok Sabha and fresh elections, which were otherwise due in September 2004 as the “political mood in the country seemed very positive in favour of the NDA.” However, he admitted that the NDA lost “mainly because of overconfidence and consequent complacency.” He has also mentioned that to strengthen the organisation, BJP chief Nitin Gadkari favoured bringing back former party colleagues, including Ms Uma Bharti.

Dec. 11: Veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani on Saturday refused to speak politics during his visit to Udupi to participate in the 80th birth anniversary celebration of Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Adhokshaja Mutt.
“I request my friends from the media to give a holiday to politics,” he said. “I don’t want to evade questions.”
When reporters persistently questioned him of the BJP’s problems in the state, he said, “So far as the ‘problem’ of the Karnataka BJP is concerned our party president Nitin Gadkari along with Arun Jaitley was in the state only recently. They will deal with it.”
He did not talk much politics even during the party meeting and spoke of the development of Udupi and BJP in the south and his days in the Bangalore Jail during the Emergency.
Mr Advani also recalled that Udupi municipality was the first body in South where BJP came to power, about 42 years ago.
“Karnataka was the first state in South where the BJP came to power,” he said.
