DMK gets praise from SC on PDS
Though it might have come a bit too late but the Supreme Court in its order on food security for poor on Saturday lavished praise on the outgoing DMK-led government in Tamil Nadu for running the best public distribution system in the country. A bench of Justices Dalveer Bhandari not only praised the Tamil Nadu government but asked the Centre to emulate the system evolved by it and make the same applicable in other states.
“Tamil Nadu is successfully distributing food grains on individual basis. Perhaps the Union of India may consider the Tamil Nadu pattern for the entire country,” the top court said while pointing various flaws in the Centre’s scheme as well as the criteria laid down by the Planning Commission.
The major flow in the Centre’s scheme pointed out by the court was the fixing a general parameter of giving 35 kg of food grains per family instead of making the allocation on the basis of per person.
