DNA test on Mexican child
The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has decided to wait for the outcome of the DNA test to be conducted on the Mexican child as ordered by a Madurai court to confirm the murder of her mother.
CWC which sat on Friday to hear the case of the five-year-old Mexican girl whose father allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend (the child’s mother) has called for the copy of the order of JM VI from the Madurai rural police.
The Tirunagar police inspector, sources said, had sent a letter to the authorities of the reception home where the child has been handed over stating that the girl should not be given in custody to anyone without the knowledge of the court as DNA test has to be done on her.
“Though the accused Martin Manrique had confessed to killing Cecile Denise Acosta in a fight over their child’s custody, the court has ordered for a DNA testing on the child to determine whether the woman found murdered was Cecile,” a police official said.
The committee perused Martin’s letter requesting that his daughter be handed over to his mother or sister. Even as the girl’s paternal grandmother would be visiting the home on Saturday seeking her custody, the CWC has decided only to let her meet the child.
“We are waiting for a detailed report from the embassy. Only based on it, a decision can be taken. We are also mulling over handing over the child to the embassy. Whatever it may be, it will take at least 10 days to decide on the next course of action. Until then, the girl will be at the home,” a committee member said.
Martin’s visa, sources said, expires by the end of this month and hence the embassy is also exploring the possibilities of deporting him to Mexico.
