DNA test of Pascal may take at least a week
The report on the DNA test of Pascal Mazurier, the 39-year-old French consular official accused of raping his minor daughter, may take at least a week.
Former director of the DNA Laboratory at Madiwala, Mrs T. R. Kumari, said that to establish rape they will have to conduct a ‘Y-STR’ DNA profiling on the samples – like the blood sample of the accused, vaginal swab and stains on the clothing of the victim or at the scene of the crime.
“The DNA test will take time, it cannot be done in a day,” said Mrs Kumari. It is reliably learnt that the police will request for the first swab of the victim taken at the Baptist Hospital on June 13 and hand it to the DNA laboratory for profiling.
“Mazurier’s blood was drawn on Tuesday at the Bowring Hospital and will be sent to the DNA laboratory soon. There are two primary tests that need to be done – regrouping of his and his daughter’s blood to prove that he is her biological father, and the ‘Y-STR’ DNA profiling to establish rape,” said a senior forensic expert.
Mazurier is kept in a high security cell as requested by the French consulate, at Parapanna Agrahara central prison. His behaviour is normal and he did not throw any tantrums and was very co-operative, said sources in the jail.
Mazurier was arrested on Tuesday after the Union Home ministry clarified to the city police that the accused did not enjoy any diplomatic immunity and action can be taken as per the law.
