Doc gets 15 yrs for planting bombs
A local court in Ajmer on Tuesday has held Dr Jalees Ansari and Abrer Ahmad Ansari, alias Qari, guilty of planting bombs in Jaipur in 1993 to execute serial blasts and awarded sentences ranging from 15 years to 20 years. Dr Ansari is already serving a life term in connection with several blasts in the country after the demolition of the Babri mosque. The court, however, acquitted two of the suspects as the prosecution failed to prove the case against them.
The Special Tada court in Ajmer sentenced Qari to 20 years imprisonment and Dr Ansari has been sentenced for 15 years. The court found them guilty of planting tiffin bombs in Jaipur in September 1993 after the demolition of the mosque in Ayodhya. “Qari and Ansari have been convicted for offences under India’s explosive act and Tada, said public prosecutor Bhagirtah Singh Shekhawat. The two other suspects, Dr Habib and Jmaal Alvi, were also tried under the similar offences. But the prosecution could not establish the case against them and both of them were acquittal. “We filed a appeal against the acquittal of the two suspects,” said Mr Shekhawat, while speaking over phone from Ajmer.
According to the prosecution, the perpetrators planned to cause major damage.
