Don’t blame agri for price hikes: Pawar
Union agriculture mnister Sharad Pawar said Saturday that his ministry should not be blamed for the rise in prices, saying that policies to control inflation are discussed and formulated at the “highest level” and involve the Prime Minister and finance minister.
Absolving the agriculture ministry of responsibility for rising prices, Mr Pawar said its responsibility was to ensure adequate production of wheat, rice, sugar and oilseeds in the country.
The minister noted that wheat, rice and sugar were cheaper in India than other countries.
A news agency report said Mr Pawar made these comments when reporters at Manchar, near Pune, suggested the Congress was targeting the Nationalist Congress Party on the issue.
