Doubts about illegal construction raised
Hyderabad: There are now strong suspicions that some portions of the City Light Hotel were illegal. Investigation officers have found that some of the building documents are missing.
Syed Hassan, the owner of the building, told the police that the documents are trapped under the collapsed structure. However, the cops may not buy this explanation as it’s highly unlikely that the building documents would be kept at the eatery.
“We are trying to acquire the original documents from the GHMC and other departments to verify the permissions the building had,” said Mahankali detective inspector M. Srinivas Rao. According to the owner, the documents including the building permission, trade licence and papers on structural design, were kept in the building and are now lost in the debris.
Meanwhile, the police is yet to confirm who the real owner of the building is. While Syed Hassan, against whom a case has been booked, is identified as the owner of the hotel, it is yet unclear in whose name the property has been registered.
Police has identified 40 eyewitnesses, including the injured, who will testify in the investigation.
