DRDO to build NBC attack detection kit

The Defence Research and Development Organisation, the premier defence research organisation in India, has been mandated to create equipment for early detection of, and protection from, nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) attacks.
The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved a Rs 285-crore project, proposed by the defence ministry, for developing systems and equipment for protection from the NBC weapons and leakages. “Under the project for NBC defence, the DRDO has been tasked to develop quick and fast detection systems in case of an NBC attack on our vital installations and cities or leakage in any of the installations dealing with these materials,” a PTI report said quoting an unnamed defence ministry official.
“In case on any attack, such detection systems will help in finding the exact sources of contamination and the authorities concerned would be able to react in an effective manner,” the official said.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation is also working on developing and increasing the number of systems for providing individual protection for soldiers in NBC environment.

‘Probe blast cases with RSS links’
AGE CORRESPONDENT

The CPI(M) on Sunday requested Centre to pursue the blast cases, allegedly involving Hindu terror groups, on a fasttrack basis so that the true nature of their terrorist activities is revealed.
Mentioning that the interrogation of some RSS functionaries in Uttar Pradesh on their alleged links with Hindutva terror groups is a serious development, party politburo said, “Hindutva terror groups are suspected to be behind the bomb blasts targeting the minority community in at least three incidents in which innocent people were killed.”
“At least now, government must pursue these cases on a fasttrack without compromise so that the true nature of these terrorist activities are revealed,” it said in a statement. RSS pracharaks are suspected to be linked to such elements cannot be put down to individual aberrations but it is precisely the hatred filled irrational propaganda by the RSS which is responsible, the party alleged.
It reminded that the party had in 2006 demanded an inquiry in the Parliament to probe whether there was a wider network in operation in the context of the Nanded bomb blasts and the blast at the RSS office in Coimbatore.
