DRI may ask Rahat, 2 aides to reappear
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday recorded the statements of five persons, including top Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and two of his associates, Maroof and Chitresh Srivastava, in connection with undeclared foreign currency being recovered from their possession. Questioning ended late Thursday night. They were questioned for nearly 12 hours. There was a possibility of the trio being asked to appear before the agency again. Earlier, the DRI had let off the trio on February 14 and asked them to appear before it on Thursday. Their passports have already been seized.
Sleuths of the DRI and the Income-Tax officials are understood to be scrutinising at least 400 to 500 emails in this regard. They have also recovered one hard disc, the contents of which are being verified.
During questioning, Maroof is believed to have told the officials throughout that he was not aware of anything with connection to the transactions. Sources said that, on the basis of the questioning of the trio, the possibility of summoning a couple of Bollywood actresses cannot be ruled out. The agency officials are scrutinising the details of the diary, which was recovered from the offices of Chitresh, who owns an event management company.
Meanwhile, the DRI sleuths are said to be concentrating on at least five past shows of Rahat, including one which was held in Delhi.
