Drive for check schools using false tags
Rajahmundry: The education department in East Godavari has initiated a special drive to ensure implementation of government order on the removal of additional tags to schools in both private and corporate sectors.
It is said that several private school managements, particularly in the corporate sector, use tags such as public school, e-learning, techno, business, IIT concept and others to attract parents to seek admissions for their wards in their school.
But in the absence of any check by either the education department or by district authorities, the schools have been collecting hefty amounts as fees while some are said to be running the institutions without valid permissions.
According to available information, there are more than 1,000 private schools, with nearly one third of them in corporate sector across the district. After a GO issued in 2009, several schools have been collecting Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 from each student per annum (per academic year).
East Godavari BJP president Vetukuri Suryanarayana Raju on Tuesday alleged that the education department has no control over the activities of these schools particularly in the corporate sector. They have failed to inform the parents about the unrecognised schools until now.
Raju also alleged that several corporate schools still continue to use tags despite strictures passed by the government, which itself indicates the state of affairs. When contacted, the DEO, K.V. Srinivasulu Reddy clarified that special teams have been formed to ensure the removal of the tags from schools.
These teams will visit schools in every mandal from July 10 to July 20 and submit their reports. Any school found violating the government order will be issued notices and appropriate action will initiated on or before July 25, he said.
Commenting on unrecognised schools, he said that of the 85 identified, 45 schools have applied for recognition in proper forums. The verification process is underway.
“We have decided to conduct meetings with parents of students in unrecognised schools and with their consent their wards will be admitted to the nearest government school,” the DEO clarified.
