Drivers kill teenager for mobile phone in Chennai
Two drivers killed a teenager in Sankar Nagar and took away his cellphone to make a few calls, in what seems to be the first murder for a mobile phone in Chennai.
The police on Sunday arrested two men — Rajamani and Manikandan — aged 21 and 20 in connection with the murder of Vijay, a construction worker in Sankar Nagar, a week ago on Thiruneermalai Service Road.
The police said Rajamani and Manikandan, residents of Anakaputhur and natives of Tirunelveli, murdered the victim when he refused to give his mobile phone for them to make a call.
“We wanted to make a call. We wanted to borrow the mobile from him. When we asked him he refused to give it. This led to an argument and we pushed him down and smashed his head with a stone. We were drunk,” the two told the police on Sunday.
The theft of the mobile helped police track the accused and make arrests.
Vijay,19, a native of Thiruvannamalai, was working in a construction site with his brother and had gone to releive himself in the afternoon when he was murdered.
