Drums, crackers, sweets mark Rahul b’day
Congress workers on Saturday assembled at the party headquarters on Akbar Road to celebrate the 40th birthday of party general secretary Rahul Gandhi. Though the scion of the Gandhi family is abroad, enthusiastic party workers offered cakes to his posters while dancing to drums and bursting fire-crackers.
The 24, Akbar Road office of the Congress wore a festive look as party workers kept trickling in since morning. They carried posters of Mr Gandhi and proudly showed them to the assembled mediapersons. The party workers celebrated the 40th birthday of Mr Gandhi by cutting a 40-kg cake and distributing sweets.
Dancing to drumbeats, raising slogans for Mr Gandhi and hailing him as the future leader of the country, the Congress workers brought a 40-kg cake to mark the Amethi MP’s birthday.
The workers themselves cut the cakes and distributed it among each other even as drumbeats reached to a frenzy. They also distributed “ladoos” to onlookers and supporters alike.
Delhi MLA and the Congress secretary Jai Kishen organised a voluntary blood donation camp to mark the occasion.
The Youth Congress and NSUI leaders also joined in the celebrations of Mr Gandhi’s birthday.
Born on June 19, 1970, Mr Gandhi is a second-time MP from Amethi and is looking after party affairs as in-charge of the NSUI and the Youth Congress. However, there was no official celebration planned at the AICC headquarters to mark the occasion.
