‘Durga could appeal against suspension’
Confirming the Centre’s move, minister of state for personnel V. Narayansamy said: “After seeing reports in the media, the first letter was sent on July 30 seeking a report from the state government. The second letter was sent on August 2 and the third letter was sent today asking them to give a response immediately.”
An additional secretary of the ministry of personnel is in touch with the UP government over the phone to expedite the report.
Mr Narayanasamy, whose department looks after matters relating to all-India service officers, said Ms Nagpal had the right to appeal against her suspension to the Centre.
“If she feels she has been suspended for the wrong reasons, she can appeal to us,” the minister said, adding that the woman officer had not yet written to the Centre in this regard.
Ms Nagpal, who belongs to the UP IAS cadre, was suspended ostensibly for ordering the demolition of a wall of a under-construction mosque without following due process. The minister said the Centre would act if it finds that the officer was suspended for the wrong reasons. “Representatives of IAS officers’ association had met me. I assured them the Centre would look into the issue in a dispassionate manner.
The Centre will definitely act if it finds she has been suspended for a wrong reason,” he said. “The Centre will decide on its future course of action.”
