Why not Khemka, asks SP
New Delhi: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi came out in support of Uttar Pradesh IAS officer  Durga Shakti Nagpal, saying she should not be penalised for standing up against ‘vested interests’ and wrote a letter to the Prime Minister in this regard.
Reacting sharply, SP leader Naresh Aggarwal said Sonia Gandhi should write two more letters to the Prime Minister about her son-in-law Robert Vadra’s land deals in Haryana and Rajasthan.
“Sonia Gandhi should write two more letters, one about Haryana IAS officer Ashok Khemka, who was suspended by the chief minister, and another to the Rajasthan CM for suspending two IAS officers. In both the cases, the name of Vadra cropped up,” he said.

New Delhi: In a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has expressed concern over the suspension of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal and noted that it was in all likelihood that the decision on her was taken in haste over “unsubstantiated reasons”.
The Congress president suspected that Durga Shakti Nagpal in the course of her public duties was seen to be standing up against vested interests.
“We must ensure that the officer is not unfairly treated,” she told the Prime Minister.  Ms Nagpal shot into limelight for her action against the sand mafia in the state.

Durga denies wall demolition order
Lucknow: IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, under suspension for allegedly demolishing the wall of a religious structure in a village in Gautam Buddha Nagar, has reportedly denied having ordered the demolition of the said wall.
Nagpal, according to sources, told UP chief secretary Javed Usmani when she met him on Friday that she had not ordered the demolition of the wall and that she had been sent to Kadalpura village in Greater Noida by the district magistrate who had asked her to resolve the matter.
The suspended officer, sources said, told the chief secretary that she had told the villagers that as per Supreme Court rules, religious structures cannot be built on government land and also require special clearances.
The villagers, she said, pulled down the wall themselves.
It may be recalled that chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had claimed that Ms Nagpal was suspended because she had razed the wall of a mosque which could have stoked communal tensions.
Ms Nagpal also met Ms Anita Singh, secretary to the chief minister and explained her position.Sources said that both the officers did not give any assurance to Ms Nagpal about revocation of her suspension but said they would convey her explanation to the chief minister.
The chief secretary, however, is believed to have asked her to submit a written explanation along with a request for revocation of suspension.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party sources said that the chief minister had been advised by senior leaders in the party not to succumb to pressures and revoke the suspension of Ms Nagpal.
“Since the BJP has taken up her case and is out on the streets fighting for Durga Shakti Nagpal, the revocation of her suspension would amount to bowing to Opposition pressure,” said a senior SP leader on Saturday.
Two senior leaders Mohammed Azam Khan and Mr Naresh Agarwal have, in fact, demanded action against the district magistrate of Greater Noida for “misleading” the state government.
