In a blatant waste of the taxpayers’ money public hoardings and banners carrying former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s pictures, that were erected to mark the BJP government completing three years in office, are being replaced with new ones featuring his successor, D.V. Sadananda Gowda barely a few weeks later.
Tenders have been invited to erect the new hoardings and banners carrying Mr Gowda’s pictures, according to reliable sources.
The banners and hoardings came up all across the state as recently as the first of June after the government completed three years on May 30 and are being replaced within a few weeks because of the unceremonious exit of Mr Yeddyurappa.
The money that was spent on them has clearly gone down the drain.
The information department which erected as many as 1,017 hoardings and banners in the taluks and 737 hoblis in the state at a cost of Rs 70 lakh, has now called for fresh tenders worth Rs 70 lakh again to print a fresh batch with Mr Gowda’s pictures on them in place of Mr Yeddyurappa’s.
Admitting that fresh tenders had been invited, Mr. Mudhu Mohan, director, Karnataka Information Department, said he was waiting for orders from the government to erect the new hoardings and banners.
The process would be completed within a week after receiving the go ahead, he added.
Interestingly, before BJP government came to power there were only 275 hoarding in the state.
