‘Eat full roti, vote for Cong’
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the Opposition without naming it and said that the Opposition treated the poor as a burden while his party saw them as the nation’s powerhouse. He also coined a slogan “Puri roti khayenge, Congress ko satta me layenge (Eat full bread and bring back Congress to power).”
Addressing a huge gathering at Salumber, 70 km from Udaipur, Mr Gandhi on Wednesday made an emotional appeal reminding the tribal people how his late father and others worked for the welfare of the downtrodden sections of the society. Mr Gandhi said he was ready to fulfil their dreams. The ruling Congress has organised the rally a day after BJP’s national poll campaign head and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi launched his party’s poll campaign from Jaipur while addressing a massive rally.
The Congress cautiously chose tribal dominated South Rajasthan to sound the poll bugle. Though Mr Gandhi did not name Modi and his party, but he cited an example of a Guru, who remained calm while someone hurled abuses at him. “If someone abuse us, he is free to do so, but we will not react and serve the people, because we are true soldiers of the Congress,” he said.
Mr Rahul Gandhi dedicated his speech to the tribal, poor and marginalised sections of the society and spoke about the food security bill and the free medicine scheme introduced by the Congress government in Rajasthan.
“We assured nobody will sleep without food, but the Opposition created several obstacles in the passing of the food security bill,” he said.
Mr Gandhi termed India as bouquet of different flowers and said the Congress want all the flowers to shine.
