ED books Chautala, two sons for fraud
The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday booked former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and his two sons, Ajay and Abhay, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
According to sources, the ED filed the case under the PMLA following a CBI chargesheet against the trio in a disproportionate assets case. Mr Chautala is the second former CM after Madhu Koda who has been booked under money laundering charges. His sons Ajay and Abhay are members of the Haryana Assembly from Dabwali and Ellenabad constituencies, respectively. The trio have been booked under the PMLA on the basis of chargesheet filed by the CBI in a disproportionate assets case against them. There are reports that they have allegedly acquired properties and made investments in other countries also.
The ED will conduct its own investigations to find out if they have such properties and foreign links. Besides, ED may send letter rogatory to certain countries to ascertain the details of their overseas investments, sources said.
Reacting to the ED filing case against them under the PMLA, Mr Abhay Chautala denied having information about the case. “But if it is true, it is a case of political conspiracy against us,” he told this newspaper.
