ED probes Kalaignar TV in 2G scam case

The AIADMK-led Opposition has now got a new missile in its artillery to target the DMK and the first family on the spectrum scam as reports emerged about the Enforcement Directorate probing the money trail to Kalaignar TV.
The agencies are examining whether the transaction of `214 crores, transferred by the subsidiary of DB Group into the accounts of the TV channel owned by the family of chief minister M. Karunanidhi, has any links to the spectrum allocation.
Although it has come to light that the money was repaid by the channel with interest as the deal did not fructify due to some differences over valuation of the 30 per cent stake that the Mumbai-based DB Group had intended to pick up from the channel, the Opposition is bound to take this new “skeleton-out-of-the-cupboard” before the public.
A senior AIADMK leader remarked that the party would take the alleged involvement of the Karunanidhi family in the scam to every nook and cranny of the state with Ms Jayalalithaa raking up the issue consistently.
DMK sources are confident that the spectrum issue would not affect its prospects in the elections as it has delivered a number of welfare schemes.

BJP sticks to all for JPC
Chennai, Feb. 4: Not willing to budge, BJP on Friday insisted on a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the 2G spectrum allocation scam, saying larger governance issues were involved and government never said why it was against it. “Our demand for JPC probe is not just regarding Raja (former telecom minister), but there are larger issues of governance involved in this, such as role of corporates. So our demand for a JPC stands,” senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj told reporters here.
Ms Swaraj said while the Opposition had clearly stated why they were demanding JPC probe, the government never said why it was against it. —PTI

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
