ED set to grill two hawala operators soon
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will soon start questioning of the alleged hawala operators Mahesh Jain and Alok Jain in connection with its probe into the 2G Spectrum scam.
According to sources, Mahesh Jain is expected to be questioned by the agency very soon. The CBI officials recently conducted searches at the residential premises of Mahesh Jain and Alok Jain in Delhi in connection with 2G scam probe. The ED has already registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in the month of March this year against unknown officials of the department of telecommunications (DoT) and representatives of certain private companies in connection with the award of new telecom licenses in 2008.
The ED has already questioned corporate lobbyist Nira Radia in connection with its probe into the 2G scam. Radia’s role first emerged when the income tax department recorded her conversations allegedly with former telecom minister A. Raja, some corporate biggies and a few scribes when the process of 2G allotment was going on. The agency will soon question Raja also, sources added.
The ED agency is also preparing a list of those who remained in constant touch with Ms Radia during the time of 2G spectrum allotment, sources said. The Enforcement Directorate officials are also in touch with CBI officials, sources said.
The CBI recently conducted searches at the office and residential premises of Ms Radia, former chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Pradip Baijal and several Chennai-based companies with which Mr Raja and his family members are allegedly linked in connection with 2G spectrum scam.
