‘Editor’ held for printing objectionable book

The editor-in-charge of a book has been arrested from Sant Ravidas Nagar for printing and circulating objectionable material involving Gods, Goddesses, Prophets and women from Hindu and Muslim communities.
The police are now on the lookout for the chief editor of the publication.
The arrest was made under Section 153(A), which calls for action against persons promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race etc. and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony and Section 295 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class.
According to the DGP headquarters, one Haseeb Khan, a resident of Pashchim Taraf in Bhadohi police circle, lodged a written complaint against all those responsible for printing and publishing of a booklet titled “Vartamaan Kranti” in with the lead story was headlined “Satya bolna paap hai, Subse kaho hum sex baaz hain” (speaking truth is a sin, tell everyone your are fond of sex).
He alleged in his complaint that the publication contained derogatory description of divine entities of both Hindu and Muslim religions and women in general.

Gross enrolment ratio in higher education 18.8%

In a major achievement for the UPA, the gross enrolment ratio in India has reached an estimated record 18.8 per cent, with OBCs recording a respecta-ble 27.1 per cent. The provisional survey on higher education released on Friday also revealed that the enrolment ratio among SC students in contrast stood at 10.2 per cent and 4.4 per cent in case of females.
The survey added that the enrolment amongst the teaching staff was more under OBC at 23.3 per cent as compared to 7.4 per cent among SC category and 2.9 per cent in ST category.
Human resource development minister Kapil Sibal on Friday exuded confidence about attaining the gross enrolment ratio of 30 per cent by 2020. “If the figures of all universities are taken into account, then GER would come out to 19.5 per cent. From 12.4 to 19.5 in three years,” he said. The figures are based on information provided by 489 universities and over 11,000 colleges. The full report will be released on on November 11.
The survey said while the number of private unaided colleges account for a major share of the total number of colleges at 57 per cent, the enrolment in such colleges is only 38 per cent of the total enrolment.
