Eid on Monday in Delhi, Kerala to celebrate Eid on Sunday
Eid-ul-Fitr, culminating month-long Ramzan, will be celebrated in the national capital on Monday as the new moon was not sighted on Saturday.
"The Eid moon has not been sighted today. The fasting of Ramzan will continue tomorrow. Id-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday," Maulana Mufti Mohammed Mukkaram, Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid, said.
The decision was taken after a meeting of Qadeem Royat Hilal Committee.
Meanwhile, Muslims in Kerala will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday.
The sighting of the Moon, marking the end of the fasting season, was declared this evening by 'Kazis' (spiritual leaders) of the commmunity, including Panakkad Syid Hyderali Thangal.
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly V.S. Achuthanandan and leaders of various political parties greeted the people on the occasion.
In his Eid message, IUML supremo Panakkad Hyderali Shiab Thangal called upon the faithful to take Eid as an opportunity to reinforce love, affection and compassion among all sections of the society.
