Elderly woman is ‘strangulated’
May 11: Chetna Sanghvi, 55, who was mysteriously found dead inside her flat at Bhowanipore on Monday evening, was strangulated to death.
“The preliminary post-mortem report claims that the victim had suffered a fracture in one of her ribs which was caused due to immense pressure on her chest. A fracture in the hyoid bone has also confirmed strangulation,” revealed an official of Bhowanipore police station on Tuesday. The report further claims that she had been murdered between 4 pm and 6.30 pm.
The nature of the crime suggests that it was carried out by more than one person. The very fact that no resistance marks were found on the victim’s body suggests that she was taken by surprise when her assailants attacked her.
Circumstantial evidences hint that some insider whom the victim knew very well might be involved in the crime. A glass of water and another of tea have been recovered from the scene of crime. Fingerprint experts have found fingerprints other than that of the victim. “The keys to the almirah is missing, suggesting that it was a murder for gain,” said an officer.
