Engg student’s ear bitten off in scuffle

Punnapra police spread the dragnet for Jinu, an electronics and communications student at the Punnappra cooperative engineering college, on a charge of biting off his classmate’s ear during a scuffle on Thursday.

Muhamood Ijas, who suffered serious injuries to his right ear, has been admitted to a hospital in Ernakulam and underwent a surgery. Police said the students clashed over financial matters. Jinu hails from Thiruvananthapuram.

The police said the investigation was focusing on Jinu. "If the victim provides more evidence relating to more culprits, we would expand the investigation." The college principal suspended Jinu following the attack.
