Entry to secret royal passage is free

A secret passage linking Amber Palace to Jaigarh Fort is approximately 325 meters in length. As of now half of the passage (from Amer Palace to Ganesh Pol) has been excavated and the excavation of the other half will be done by the Jaigarh Public Charitable Trust (JPCT) and will be operational soon. The project is undertaken on PPP (Public-Private-Partnership) basis between department of archaeology and museums (Government of Rajasthan) and JPCT. An agreement to this effect has been signed between them. The path along the tunnel is also made motorable. Tourists taking the tunnel from Amer Palace will climb out at Ganesh Pol. To facilitate the tourists reach Jaigarh, battery-operated golf carts will be operated from Ganesh Pol to Awani Gate (entry to Jaigarh Fort). A resting space has also been developed at Ganesh Pol.
“We have made half of the tunnel, around 400 metre, functional,” MSMS Museum Trust director Ynuns Khimani said. According to him, the tunnel is about 14-foot-deep and approximately 10-foot wide. Though there will be no entry fee levied on entering the tunnel, however, for the golf cart, `70 will be charged from the Ganesh Pol to the Jaigarh Fort and `100 for both ways.
It is believed that the pathway was constructed probably in 18th century as a defence mechanism so that in case of an attack on Amber palace, the royal family and others could be evacuated undetected from the palace to the fort through this structure.
