Ephedrine powder worth Rs 5 crore seized in raids
Over 330 kg of ephedrine powder, valued at Rs 5 crore in international market, were seized and eight persons were arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths in separate raids.
The contraband, which is used to manufacture stimulant drugs, was to be smuggled to Mexico, NCB officials said on Thursday. Acting on a tip-off, the NCB officials raided factory premises of Raireshwar Organic Chemicals at Mahad in Raigad district and seized 93 kg of Ephedrine on October 26.
Two directors of the factory have been arrested in this connection, NCB officials said. On the same day, they also raided a factory at Paloli, in Gujarat's Bharuch district and seized 238 kg of ephedrine. After the raid, NCB officials have arrested six persons in this connection.
