Eunuchs dance for rains in Kanpur

Rising mercury coupled with hot and dry winds have compelled the eunuch community of the city to perform prayer dance, with a hope that it would bring rains here.

Large number of eunuchs performed dance and offered prayers in a local temple on Friday.

Speaking to mediapersons, Pahua highlighted the significance of prayers performed by the eunuch community.

"We are performing dance so that it could rain. We are offering payers day and night by standing on one leg," Pahua said.

The maximum temperature recorded in the city was about 43-degree Celsius.

In the past, when it didn't rain, the erstwhile princely rulers urged the eunuchs to dance and appease Hindu rain God Indra.

The tradition has been followed by eunuch community since then.
