EVMs cause decline in excitement?
The emergence of EVM has made counting of votes easy and quick, but many feel that this has also caused a decline in the excitement levels which used to be there among people when it was a manual process.
“Earlier, the vote counting used to take two-three days during which party supporters sat outside the counting office and shouted slogans in favour of their candidate. It was like a fair,” Jyoti Bajpai, up cricket association director said. With EC becoming tough, the usual sight of supporters shouting slogans outside counting office has also become extinct. “We used to sit outside counting office with party members. But now due to strictness of Election Commission no body does that,” said Salman a shopkeeper.
“Machines have made counting easy but we don’t enjoy as much as we used to do earlier,” says a social worker.
