EVP park head held for woman’s death
E.V. Perumalsamy, chairman of the theme park EVP World where an airhostess was killed in an accident in October, was on Tuesday arrested by Chennai police at a private hospital.
The accused had been absconding after the accident and had got himself admitted to hospital four days ago with complaints of chest pain, while his son Santhosh, another accused in the case, had got anticipatory bail, according to police.
A magistrate reached the hospital and remanded Perumalsamy, 56, to judicial custody till December 4.
Airhostess Afia Magh, 20, a native of Nagaland working for Kingfisher Airlines, died after she was flung out of an Octopus Ride and crashed through the metal frames of the merrygoround at the theme park on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway near Poonamalee.
The Nazarethpet police of the city had that day arrested the theme park manager, the operator of the Octopus Ride and his assistant for causing death due to negligence. The police had registered a case against Perumalsamy and his son the next day.
“We have been looking for him for nearly 50 days. He was absconding since the accident took place. A couple of days ago he was admitted to private hospital in Vadapalani and we arrested him on Tuesday,” the police said.
On the day of accident, the police said that the safety belt was not fastened properly on the airhostess.
The ‘hands’ of Octopus move randomly at a height of 20 feet in different directions and most of her friends saw her only after she hit the ground, bleeding from her head, the police said.
