Ex-CPM leader killed, probe on
The police team probing the murder of the T.P. Chandrasekharan, leader of the Revolutionary Marxist Party on Friday night, has identified a seven-member gang responsible for the heinous act. Although officials remained tightlipped about the details the probe team seems to have gathered enough leads to confirm that the brutal killing was the result of a well-planned conspiracy by the political enemies of the assassinated leader.
Although the prime suspects involved in the killing are yet to be nabbed, the police has taken into custody five people who provided the logistical support for the killing. The police, however, has identified only three people — Naveen Das, Rejeesh and Harris — in custody.
The police has not disclosed names of the two other people in custody. Naveen Das, the custody, is the owner of car rental services. According to the police, the Innova car used by the killer gang on Friday night was rented out by Rejeesh and Harris from Naveen Das.
The investigation is progressing and it is too early to divulge further details, Kozhikode Rural SP T.K. Rajmohan told this newspaper on Saturday.
The police is moving with the assumption that the conspiracy was hatched by the political opponents of Chandrasekharan at the local level. So far, there was no evidence to link the political leadership at the state level with the murder, a source said. The investigation team is also probing the veracity of reports that the killing was done to pre-empt the return of Chandrasekharan and his followers to the parent organisation. Chandra-sekharan had left the CPI(M) four years ago.
