Facebook offers Rs 38 lakh pay
Dec. 2: Social networking website Facebook has offered up to $85,000 (approximately Rs 38 lakh) in yearly salaries to students of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, during placements this year.
“About 100 students have applied for the interview and officials from Facebook are interviewing students from the United States through Skype,” said N. Ramesh Babu, advisor (training and placement), IIT-M. “The students were asked to solve a puzzle in Facebook before taking the interview.”
Prof. Babu said 1,056 students from BTech, MTech, MS, Phd, MBA, MA and MSc registered for placement this year and over 250 companies have expressed their willingness to recruit students from IIT-M.
Placement at IIT-M started this year on December 1 with 36 students getting jobs in 10 companies, including Boston Consulting Group, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, IBM (research lab), ITC, McKenzie and Morgan Stanley. The average salary this year is Rs 7.5 lakh per annum.
Last year Tower Research Capital offered highest yearly salary, Rs 28 lakh, and 230 companies visited IIT-M for placements, recruiting 718 out of 1,066 students.
