Factionalism hits Cong unit in TN
With the sudden demise of D. Sudarsanam, the Congress Legislature Party leader of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, the factional rivalry in the state unit has once again come to the fore. The reason is to get hold of the post of the CLP leader.
It’s a well-known fact that the late Sudarsanam was a confidante of late G.K. Moopanar and belonged to the faction of the G.K.Vasan. Now that Sudarsanam is no more, the tussle for the slot of the CLP leader has begun. According to sources, different factions of the Tamil Nadu unit have started approaching the high command to get their man elected to the vacant slot. E.V.K.S Elongavan, who lost out to Sudarshana Nachiappan in the race to the RS nomination, is keen to have his voice heard in the selection of the next CLP leader. P. Chidambaram, who is close to the high command but unable to assert his authority in the state unit, has his own preference, it is said. K.V.Thanga Balu, the state Pradesh Congress Committee president, though not a heavyweight, but by virtue of being close to Ghulam Nabi Azad, is reportedly trying to foist his man. Apart from these factions, there are some senior leaders within the state unit who fancy a chance for them.
