Farmer gets death sentence for double murder in Andhra Pradesh
Anantpur: The sessions court here on Friday sentenced a farmer to death for murdering two of his neighbours.
Accused Venkatesulu (45), from Kuruvalli village of Bommamhal mandal, had a dispute with his neighbouring farmer Jafarsab over the use of water canal which passed through the former's field.
According to the prosecution, on October 26, 2012, Venkatesulu attacked Jafarsab. Another farmer, Maheshwar Reddy, who tried to intervene, too was killed.
Besides, a woman called Ramalakshamma sustained serious injuries.
Sessions Judge Sajja Nagarjuna today held Venkatesulu guilty on the basis of forensic reports and other evidence and sentenced him to death. He was also convicted for attempt to murder, and sentenced to ten years' rigorous imprisonment.
During the trial, Venkatesulu could not afford a lawyer and the court had to provide him one through Legal Aid.
The death sentence will have to be confirmed by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
