Father, kin kill girl’s ‘molester’
In a case of “street justice”, a Kurla resident, along with his two relatives, kidnapped and killed his daughter’s molester, inflicting fatal injuries with bare hands. The victim succumbed to extensive head injuries on Wednesday, after which the VB Nagar police arrested the trio on Thursday.
According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Khurshid Sheikh, 22, a resident of the PMGP Colony in Kurla. Sheikh was employed by his neighbour Naziruddin Sheikh, who runs an air conditioner repairing business.
At around 4.30 pm on Sunday, Sheikh had visited Naziruddin’s residence for some work. “Naziruddin was not at home at the time, and his 12-year-old daughter was alone in the house. After asking some details about her fathers’s whereabouts, Khurshid suddenly tried to kiss her. However, she started shouting for help and Sheikh fled the house before anyone could stop him. After Naziruddin returned home, his daughter told him what Sheikh had tried to do,” said an officer with the VB Nagar police. Naziruddin, accompanied by his wife Shamim and cousin Zainuddin, barged into Sheikh’s house and assaulted him. The trio then dragged him back to Naziruddin’s residence, where they showed his face to his daughter, who confirmed that it was indeed the same person who had molested her and then told her to step out of the house.
Then Naziruddin locked the door from inside and the trio thrashed Sheikh with leather belts. Naziruddin also bashed his head against a wall several times before throwing a near-unconscious Sheikh out of the house. He was lying outside the house for more than an hour, before some of his friends arrived.
