Father to pen martyred Maj. Sandeep’s biography
Nearly four years after Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan sacrificed his life fighting terrorists in Mumbai on November 27, 2008, his parents are still to come to terms with the loss of their son.
On Thursday, the martyr’s parents celebrated his 35th birth anniversary at their residence along with the members of the Indian Disabled League by feeding the blind and the visually challenged. Upa Lokayukta Justice S.B. Majage took part in the event.
Mr Unnikrishnan, a retired ISRO officer, is planning to pen a biography of his son who sacrificed his life for the country.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mr Unnikrishnan said, “Three years ago, when we lost our son, our entire life was shattered, my wife and myself contemplated ending our lives since we could not bear
his loss. But now, we have realised that his soul will only rest in peace if we celebrate his life. For us, our son is with us. We are proud that he sacrificed his life for our country.”
“Even today, some people question why memorial programmes are organised though he is no more. But I am happy that such programmes are held because they will help everyone remember Sandeep in a meaningful way”, Mr Unnikrishnan said.
He also thanked the local authorities for having taken a decision to change the name of Dairy Circle Road in Yelahanka to Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan Road. He also lauded the efforts of the government and the army in helping him during difficult times.
