Fennell to meet top OC brass
Perturbed by the delay in payments related to the travel grant to seven members of the Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs), the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) chief Michael Fennell is expected to hold an important meeting with the top brass of the Games Organising Committee (OC) on Friday. According to sources, Mr Fennell is expected to arrive India on Thursday night. And he is scheduled to hold a meeting with OC top officials in the evening on Friday. A total of 71 CGAs attended the CWG-2010. The OC was supposed to pay `16.74 crores of their travel grant.
Sources said that seven CGAs have not been paid their travel grant amounting to `1.79 crores so far. The delay in payment to seven CGAs was allegedly caused by former OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi, who reportedly remained absent for several days even before his suspension from the OC, sources alleged.
Meanwhile, the CBI is expected to register fresh FIRs in contracts related to ticketing, broadcast rights and sponsorship. The agency is likely to make some significant arrests in a day or two.
“The agency will soon register a case in connection with alleged irregularities in ticketing during the Games. Probe by the agency into the alleged irregularities in ticketing has revealed that certain members of the OC had information about the complementary tickets being sold in the black market or being distributed among people close to them,” sources said. Sources further said, “The agency will soon register a fresh FIR against certain government officials.”
