Feverish preparations at fast venue
With just a couple of days left for anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare to start his three-day fast, volunteers of India Against Corruption (IAC) are working at a feverish pace to set up all the arrangements at the MMRDA ground in Bandra-Kurla Complex. The enthusiasm reached its peak when Team Anna frontliner Arvind Kejriwal reached the venue on Sunday evening.
Preparations are on in full swing to get Mr Hazare’s stage ready. A small room with an attached toilet will be built adjoining the stage for the activist. In front of the stage where Mr Hazare will be sitting on hi fast, a separate performance dais will be erected for speeches and other ceremonies.
As per the plan, a team of 12 expert doctors from across the country will be present at the ground to monitor Mr Hazare’s health round the clock. Ambulances will also be stationed at the venue in case Mr Hazare or any of his supporters are taken ill during the fast. Furthermore, there will also be a fire tender at the venue over and above the four that are present at the nearest fire station. “Around 40,000 people can sit inside the venue at any given time to extend their support to the agitation,” said Preeti Menon, a volunteer of the IAC.
For reasons of security, no personal belongings will be allowed at the venue. When he was asked about any security concerns that might crop up at the venue where lakhs of people are likely to converge, Mr Kejriwal said, “Several political parties keep conducting rallies and none of them face any threat of any kind.”
