Finance bill passed in LS over uproar
After seeing virtually no business in the Winter Session, the Lok Sabha was finally able to pass the supplementary demands for 2010-11 on Wednesday even though the House was witnessing an uproar as usual with the Opposition demanding a JPC into the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
The Rajya Sabha though was unable to transact any business with the demand for a JPC echoing in the Upper House too. The supplementary demands for grants and related appropriation bills were introduced in the LS by Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee even as the Opposition shouted slogans demanding a JPC.
The supplementary demands were passed by a voice vote and without a debate given the uproar in the House. Later, speaking to reporters, Mr Mukherjee said, “I am not at all happy the way we had to pass the supplementary demands in the din.” The important Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill, 2010 was also introduced amidst the din by Union law minister Veerappa Moily.
The BJP, which has been spear-heading the Opposition demand for a JPC, said that their party-led NDA has decided not to disrupt the government’s financial business in Parliament.
