Fir on BSP MLA for beating up 2
An FIR was lodged Saturday against a ruling BSP MLA in UP, Ramesh Bind, and five others for allegedly beating up two persons. The MLA from Majhwa Assembly seat and his associates have been charged with beating up Raju Tewari and his driver Friday, SP (city) Sripati Mishra said. The two were seriously injured and rushed to Varanasi for treatment. “The incident occurred after a tiff between the drivers of Tewari and the MLA,” the SP said.

Yeddy Graft case put off to Sept. 22
Bengaluru: The special Lokayukta court here Saturday adjourned to September 22 further hearing on a complaint filed against former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa in a case of alleged graft. Judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao had on August 10 directed the Lokayukta police to probe the complaint and submit its findings by Saturday. The counsel for Lokayukta submitted the investigation into the case is still on.

Whistleblower told to pay tax on ‘bribe money’

The whistleblower who had exposed the cash-for-MLA scam, allegedly by former chief minister Ajit Jogi, to not let the BJP form the government in Chhattisgarh in 2003, has been slapped a notice by the IT department to pay tax on the “bribe amount”. Former BJP MLA Virendra Pandey, who brought to light the alleged scandal, told this newspaper on Saturday that the IT department has asked him to pay tax along with fine, amounting to `21.41 lakhs, on `45 lakhs, the amount allegedly paid to him to buy BJP legislators in 2003 to block the saffron party from forming the government in the state then.
According to Mr Pandey, the IT department, in its notice served to him, has maintained that the “bribe amount” has been considered of “his own”, since he could not produce evidence to show that the money was paid to him by Mr Jogi and asked him to pay tax along with fine on the amount.

BJP TO ANTONY: J&K IAF LAND IN HANDS OF MAFIA

The BJP has written a letter to defence minister A.K. Antony alleging 200 acres of Air Force property worth `1,000 crores has been grabbed by land mafias in Srinagar’s sensitive security zone.
BJP national secretary Kirit Somaiya claimed a fact-finding team of the party had come across this land grab. “200 acres of IAF land near sensitive security zone in Srinagar have been grabbed by two land mafias in connivance with revenue and defence officials. Till now 69 pieces of land of Srinagar airport area have been transferred to private citizens in the last couple of years which covers 200 acres,” Mr Somaiya said.
\The party also alleged that the National Conference leaders are trying to cover up the scam.
Demanding cancellation of all land transfers and a CBI inquiry into the issue, the party has also sought a probe into the roles of revenue officials, defence personnel as well as some politicians. The BJP also wants the defence ministry and CAG to look into the matter.
